Our Mission:



Sometimes young people need additional time and support to mature and reach their full potential. This is the main purpose of the VAM program. To assist them through the challenges they will face as they move from middle school to high school, and College into adulthood. For pre-teens and early teenagers, challenges can become overwhelming and range from academic difficulties caused by poor study habits or learning disabilities to family circumstances to personal struggles to limited playing time, poor training, or lack of development.


It's during these critical moments that guidance, encouragement, and support are most needed! Virginia A&M Academy was founded to assist our student-athletes with identifying the pathway to success and to equip them and their family with the tools, resources, mentorship, and coaching necessary to achieve their goal!


Our goal is to guide young people towards a brighter future, while helping them navigate the journey that leads them towards personal, academic, and athletic achievement.

About Us:



History:

Virginia Academics and Mentorship Academy was founded in 2009 as a nonprofit post-graduate program (PG) athletic program, originally established as Tidewater Prep Academy. Our doors opened in the fall of 2010, becoming the nation's pioneering privately operated athletic-based sports academic.


Providing unrecruited and non-qualifiers with an innovative environment to continue their athletic development and preparation for moving on to the collegiate level. Competing against the nation's top post-graduate programs, JUCO's, along with D3 and D2 JV programs. The program welcomed student-athletes not only from the Tidewater area but as far north as Michigan and as far south as Florida, and as west as Alaska.


In nine seasons, the program recorded a 63 - 27 record, and our enrollment totaled 427 student-athletes, with 261 continuing their educations and athletic careers at the next level. While winning one conference championship (Seaboard Conference), members Thaddaus Stevenson, Williamson Free, and Valley Forge, and one National Championship in 2017.


Our student-athletes were college-ready after leaving VAM, most moving to JUCO (Community College) programs in California, Minnesota, Illinois, and New York, with 87% earning an associate's degree, and 172 later enrolling into a D1 or D2 school, several winning all-conference awards in the tough California JUCO conferences, and one becoming the CCCAA all-time leading receiver in several categories.


Former VAM student-athletes moved on to compete in the SEC, Big Ten, Sun Belt, MEAC, CIAA, GLIAC, Great Midwest, NSIC, PSAC, and the SIAC.

Making several Conferences, 16 All-Americans, one MEAC player of the year, and 3 later playing professionally.
